When I think about the concept of evolution, I go back in my mind to a time when even the idea of evolution made me uncomfortable. In high school, I had a physical science teacher who was relentless in his teachings about evolution. And back then, it was a topic that really clashed with my beliefs. I couldn’t stand his lectures! I fought against him and his ideas at every turn.
But as the school year came to a close, that same teacher shared an essay with us that left me speechless. It wasn’t about scientific evolution but personal evolution—the idea that we, as individuals, should strive to grow and improve every day. The essay was beautiful and heartfelt and completely changed my perspective. I began to see that evolution isn’t just a scientific concept; it’s a fundamental part of our personal and professional journeys.
This experience reminded me of Boyz II Men’s Evolution album, one of my all-time favorites. The songs on that album resonate with the idea of growing, learning, and evolving as people. Just like the teacher, I resisted so hard, that album taught me that change is not only inevitable but essential.
Evolution is crucial in project management. We need to evolve in our thinking, processes, and skills. Whether it’s learning from past mistakes, adapting to new technologies, or simply opening ourselves up to new ideas, evolution drives progress.
So, the next time you find yourself resisting change, remember that evolution is something to aspire to. Embrace it, and let it guide you toward growth and success.
